Chapter 1: Introduction to Gallup’s Geography

  The City of Gallup is found in the northwest part of the state of New Mexico, near the Four Corners Region. It is situated between Albuquerque, New Mexico and Flagstaff, Arizona. Gallup is found at an elevation of 6,515ft. above sea level, with an area of 13.4sq mi (34.6 km²). The City of Gallup is the 11th largest city in the state of New Mexico, with a population of 22,329. American Indian ancestry accounts for a significant  portion (43.8%) of the population. Other significant racial groups are (35.2%) White,(31.7%) Hispanic or Latino origin account,  and (22.1%), White person of non- Hispanic.The predominate local tribes are Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni.
